Rewrite the Script

Finishing 2026 Strong and Planning 2027 with a Momentum Mindset®

By Dr. Samuel Jones, CSP

On Monday, October 12, I walked out of my final physical therapy session. Seven months after rupturing my Achilles tendon, I could jog again, and above everything else, I felt gratitude.

As 2026 closes, some of us are finishing great things, while others are finishing seasons of trials we did not choose. Either way, we made it this far. Finishing a season is not the end of our growth. Now, we must protect the momentum we built through the hard part.

A Pattern Worth Breaking

That thought took me back to the Sunday school lesson I taught a few weeks ago. In Judges 3, Israel followed a recurring cycle: disobedience, oppression, deliverance, and rest. After 18 years under King Eglon of Moab, God raised up Ehud, and the land rested for 80 years (Judges 3:14, 15, 30). Yet their old patterns returned.

Israel wanted deliverance from their circumstances, but they also needed to develop a new mindset. Our work is no different: purpose is fulfilled by who we are becoming, not only by what happens around us.

We cannot keep following the same script and expect a different result as well.

Here Are Four Questions to Help You Recognize Your Script

  1. 1What keeps repeating? The decision we delay or the conversation we avoid.
  2. 2What results keep returning? The outcomes our unchanged thinking keeps producing.
  3. 3What are we really asking for? A different situation or a different version of ourselves?
  4. 4What happens when things get better? That is the question I am living with now. Once the pressure lifts, it is easy to drift back.

Rewriting the Script with These Three Levers

Jesus opened His ministry with a call to change direction: “Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17, KJV). Repentance is a change of mind that leads to new alignment and action. That is why I teach these Three Levers in the Momentum Mindset® Algorithm:

  • Adaptive Thinking changes how we think.
  • Adaptive Aligning changes what we align with, beginning with God’s purpose.
  • Adaptive Doing changes what we do, consistently, even before we see results.

Pull one lever, and you get a temporary result. Pull all three, and you get a new script.

God can deliver us from a situation, but without a different mindset, we may repeat the same patterns.
